Wetting Agents

WHITE – PLUS

(WETTING AGENT FOR TITANIUM DIOXIDE)

Introduction

Generally White Primer / Enamel show satisfactory performance when applied immediately after producing. After about 2/3 months storage, vehicle separation is observed. Clear layer of Alkyd + MTO floats on the top sometimes along with violet tint on surface. Even after thorough mixing or stirring, desired original coverage is not observed; this is because of agglomerate formation of titanium on storage. WHITE - PLUS is a special additive, which helps to overcome this problem.

Recommendation & Method of use:

0.5% wt./total TiO2 to be added at the time of grinding.
Please note that no other wetting agents like soyalescithin, zinc octoate, etc.
are to be used with WHITE - PLUS.

ALKM

(WETTING AGENT FOR SOLVENT BASED PAINT & WETTING CUM DISPERSING AGENT FOR WATER BASED PAINT)

Introduction

ALKM is an ideal wetting agent for primers and enamels i.e. Solvent based paints.
ALKM is also an ideal wetting cum dispersing agent for water based paints
i.e. Distempers, Acrylic emulsions, Exterior paints, etc.

SALIENT FEATURES:

ALKM gives better penetration & dispersion of pigment in paints because of its wetting property.

Recommendation & Method of use:

1) In solvent based paint (Primer & Enamel): 0.2 to 0.3%
2) In water based paint: 0.2 to 0.3%
3) Universal stainer: 2 to 4%
But the right quantity can be determined by experiments.

AAO

(NON IONIC WETTING AGENT, EMULSIFIER)

Introduction

In paints, AAO aids Colour development, adhesion & freeze-thaw resistance.
Also the viscosity & storage stability of paints are highly influenced by the proper choice & amount of surfactant.

SALIENT FEATURES:

AAO is a non-ionic surfactant & used to provide almost universal stabilization of paints & adhesives made from them.
Paints containing AAO show great improvements in characteristics such as wet edge, leveling & flow properties.

Recommendation & Method of use:

For Universal Stainers 10 to 20% AAO is recommended.

EMULSOL PR

(MULTI PURPOSE EMULSIFIER CUM WETTING AGENT)

Introduction

EMULSOL PR is a multi-purpose emulsifier having wide applications in Universal Stainers, Putty etc.

SALIENT FEATURES:

The main advantages are as under:

High efficiency.
Excellent Viscosity Stability.
Prevents skinning in Putty.

Recommendation & Method of use:

1) Putty & Knifing Paste Filler (KPF) 0.8 to 1%
2) Universal Stainer 3 to 5%

SOFT M

(WETTING AGENT FOR EXTENDERS USED IN WATER BASED PAINTS)

Introduction

SOFT M is a wetting agent to be used in manufacture of any water based paint. Usually no wetting agent is used to effectively wet the extenders, as a result of which the final product tends to get a stiff consistency on standing resulting in decrease in brightness, dirty tone and difficulty in water miscibility.

All these problems can be prevented by using SOFT M to wet the extenders. It improves the softness of Acrylic Distemper. It improves the shade of Acrylic Distemper

Recommendation & Method of use:

It is to be added in water based paints before addition of extenders.
Approximately 200 gms. of SOFT M has to be used in 100kgs. of final product.
